Michelle Garvey Brennfleck

Michelle helps healthcare providers, suppliers, and innovators achieve their operational and business goals in a challenging regulatory environment. She frequently advises clients regarding major strategic transactions and, with recent developments in virtual healthcare, counsels clients in implementation of telehealth and other digital health initiatives.
Michelle enjoys helping clients add value to their organizations through proactive regulatory compliance efforts and integration strategies, including the formation of clinically integrated networks (CINs) and accountable care organizations (ACOs). When compliance efforts fall short, Michelle works with clients to navigate the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, False Claims Act, HIPAA and state privacy laws to mitigate associated risk.
Michelle prides herself on understanding the unique needs and considerations of in-house counsel, having been engaged for two significant in-house secondments in recent years. Her clients include health systems, integrated delivery and finance systems, academic medical centers, community hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, dialysis centers, physician groups, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), and post-acute providers.
In addition to her work with clients, Michelle is co-leader of the firm's Healthcare Industry Group and N.O.W. (Network of Women) affinity group. She also serves as Academic Medical Centers and Teaching Hospitals Practice Group Chair for the American Health Law Association.
Michelle has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® in the Healthcare Law category since 2024. Most recently, she was named a 2024 Trailblazer in Healthcare by City and State PA and a 2024 Women & Business Award honoree by Pittsburgh Magazine.

Dr. Deepan Kamaraj
Director of Data Analytics and Informatics - UPMC Enterprises
Dr. Deepan Kamaraj is the director of data analytics and informatics at UPMC Enterprises. In this role, Dr. Kamaraj leads the organization's analytics strategy and manages a growing team of data analysts and scientists. He spearheads the development and commercialization of advanced data services, establishing a robust analytics infrastructure that supports both internal innovation and external partnerships. His efforts focus on leveraging UPMC's extensive data assets and translating complex insights into strategic investment decisions.
Previously at UPMC Enterprises, Dr. Kamaraj held key roles as part of the investment team, driving strategic investment initiatives and cross-functional projects supporting the Digital Solutions portfolio. Through these efforts, Dr. Kamaraj helped bridge clinical needs with technological solutions and shaped key digital health initiatives aligned with UPMC's mission.
Dr. Kamaraj's academic credentials include an MD from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India, and both a master's and PhD in rehabilitation science and technology from the University of Pittsburgh. His passion for innovation led him to co-found Lemon Life Technologies, serving as the CEO and driving the development of novel health care solutions for people with disabilities.

Jean Pechette

Jean has more than 20 years of experience in information technology, data privacy and cybersecurity, and intellectual property law, with a focus on healthcare technology and life sciences industries. In addition to her many years of private practice, she has also served as a division general counsel for a Fortune 50 medical device and health care solutions company. Her clients range from start-ups and emerging growth companies, health systems, to multinational Fortune 500 companies, including industry leaders that offer software, hardware, cloud computing platforms, online advertising, search engine technology, artificial intelligence and other advanced technology products and solutions.
Jean also has substantial experience in intellectual property matters. She has provided advice and representation on intellectual property audits, due diligence, licensing, transfer and protection, including relating to use and licensing of open source, development strategies to mitigate infringement risks.
Jean provides product counsel advice and representation to numerous companies as lead outside counsel. As a former division general counsel at a medical technology company, Jean worked closely with cross-functional and business development teams, from product design and engineering through to launch and commercialization. She played an integral role in the growth of the imaging and IT business from a start-up venture (under $50 million) to an almost $2 billion business. She worked with her business development teams in evaluating potential acquisition targets, leading due diligence teams, and structuring and negotiating acquisitions. She has also led integration projects on developing and implementing regulatory compliance policies and processes. She has developed privacy and security protection programs, as well as intellectual property protection strategies and policies, for acquired entities. She has also reviewed marketing and promotional content and strategy for new product launches and new "go to market" contract templates and processes.
